Anesthesia and critical care with limited resources
A unique course that prepares specialists in anesthesia and intensive care for work in humanitarian setting. You will get practical skills that enable you to work with anesthesia and care of critically ill patients in resource-limited environments and in disasters.
Purpose and goal
With limited access to drugs and equipment and in deficient health care systems, specific knowledge is necessary to apply medical knowledge into clinical practice. The course highlights such difficulties and provides tools to practise anaesthesia and critical care in a medically safe and ethical way in resource limited contexts.
The aim is to provide competence, strategies and tools for performing anesthesia and critical care in humanitarian and disaster context.
Course content
The course focuses on anesthesia and critical care in humanitarian health interventions, covering the following core areas:
- Global Health
- Anesthesia and Critical Care
- Ethical Dilemmas and Medical Prioritization

Teaching methods
Interactive teaching sessions, discussion seminars, case-based workshops, hands-on training with specific equipment, simulation training for mass casualty event.
Target group
Specialised physician or nurse in anaesthesia and/or intensive care or ST physician in anaesthesia and intensive care with at least 3 years of their education completed.
When and where
The course is given during three (3) days between 20th to 22nd of November 2024 and will be held on campus Solna in Stockholm.
